Hi Everyone!

We wanted to take a break from sharing the latest air conditioning news, to share with you something a little more personal! One of the brilliant members of our team is set to complete something special in a few months and we just had to show our support!

For those of us who have the pleasure of knowing Richard personally, we can’t say that we’re too surprised by what he is proposing to do. He’s a self-confessed adventure athlete who is constantly challenging himself. It doesn’t matter how crazy the ideas may sound – he’s always determined to complete them.

His passion for running has seen him take part in a number of different races and marathons over the years. He’s no stranger to competitions either, having taken part in challenges such as Ironman UK. For those who aren’t familiar, Iron Man UK involves completing a course that requires competitors to cycle, swim and run. It sounds rather tiring to all of us!

The London Marathon

Despite the varied events, races and marathons that he has taken part in, Richard has always wanted to run the biggest one in the UK – the London Marathon. Deciding that this year was the year, he entered the general ballot in the hope of being successful. Although he wasn’t offered a place as an individual, he was more than happy to be offered a place with the Royal British Legion. It’s for this charity that he will be happily running the 26.2 miles.

For those who haven’t heard of the charity before, The Royal British Legion provides lifelong support for the Armed Forces community. Whether it’s for the men and women who are still serving or those who have previously served, the Royal British Legion offer amazing support and advice.

One Step Further

26 miles might be enough for most people, but Richard wasn’t so sure. He wanted to go the extra mile (and more) for the Royal British Legion and for himself. He decided to set a personal challenge – and it’s definitely his biggest yet!

He will be setting off from Chorley on Monday 18th April and will be RUNNING all the way to London. You heard us right – he will RUN to London. That’s a staggering 200 miles to conquer, and will see him arriving on the Saturday, ready for the London Marathon on Sunday 24th. Crazy!

When we asked him why he’s decided to do this extra run on top of an already challenging marathon, he answered us with confidence.

“I want to raise awareness of the Royal British Legion throughout the UK,

but I also want to see what can be achieved when you put your mind and body to it!”

We can’t think of a better reason!

Extending our Support

From everyone here at Air Conditioning World, we would like to extend our best wishes to Richard. We have every faith that he can complete this challenge. In fact, we know that he can complete it and do it with ease!

We will be showing our support by heading over to his fundraising page over on JustGiving and donating money to a truly amazing charity. You can do it too by following this link: https://www.justgiving.com/Rich-runs-to-London

We’re positive that Richard will be keeping us all up to date with his training over the next couple of months, so we will keep you all updated too. We’re so excited to see how well he does with the challenge!

If you have the time, please pop over to his Facebook page to show your support and/or tell him how amazing but crazy his plan is!

Winter Has Finally Arrived!!

Here in England we’re so used to the rubbish winter weather, that sometimes we don’t prepare ourselves enough for it. Things get damaged through the harsh winter days, things that cost a lot of money. NOT ANYMORE! – Have a quick read through this and it will give you some tips on preparing your Air conditioning unit for winter.

All of the air conditioning units we supply provide a very efficient source of heating as well as cool conditioned air for the warm summer days. We want all our customers to know how their air conditioning unit works during the colder weather…

When your unit is in heating mode, you may not be aware of one common function that all air conditioning units have but may lead you to think that your unit isn’t working properly. This function is called Auto Defrost. Auto Defrost is a sequence that every system will go through when the outside air temperature drops close to or below 0 degrees. The outdoor unit will run through a cooling cycle to provide warm air around the components within the outdoor unit preventing it from freezing over. This process can last up to an hour but may take longer depending on how well maintained your system is. If your unit doesn’t Auto Defrost, it can start looking like this…

Whilst the system is going through the Auto Defrost cycle, the indoor unit will blow out cool air. The system isn’t faulty, just protecting itself from the cold air!

Our advice is:

Use the timer on the unit to ensure it comes on at least 1 hour prior to the time you want to start warming the space

Set the temperature to 21-22 degrees rather than 30 degrees. This will shorten the time the outdoor unit remains in the Auto Defrost mode

Ensure your unit is regularly serviced at least once every 12 months. If you rely on your air conditioning for heating, we advise getting it serviced at the start of the winter to ensure it is in the best condition
